WIPSA - AWSNA Meeting Report

Over Mother's Day weekend, May 13th and 14th, 8 members of
the WIPSA Steering Committee and 5 members of the AWSNA
Leadership Council met at the Westin Hotel near San Francisco
International Airport. The meeting was mediated by Torin
Finser, Director of the Waldorf Teacher Training Program at

Though it was clear at the beginning that we were far apart
in our understanding of how Waldorf can be expressed in the
public sphere, we were able to actually come much closer in
our perspectives as the meeting progressed. Both groups had
articulate spokespeople and helped to present issues
carefully and respectfully.

We were able to reach some agreements; primarily, to meet
separately in an attempt to discuss, and eventually honor,
several requests each organization made of one another. I
will send out a separate report detailing the specific
requests; while the immediate agreements reached simply
concerned refraining both from gossip and threatening legal

The WIPSA Steering Committee members left with a feeling of
respect both for and from our colleagues in AWSNA. We
sensed that there was indeed support for our initiatives,
and we are optimistic about resolving all differences for
the benefit of Waldorf Education as a whole.
