Upper Grades Overview

The Waldorf curriculum in the middle school years is more fluid than in the lower grades. Greek mythology, for example, is taught in 5th grade, but Greek history can come either in 5th or 6th, and medieval history in 6th or 7th. Astronomy sometimes comes in 6th and sometimes in 7th. Homeschooling families by their very nature need this kind of flexibility -- to follow the student's interests and experience, to coordinate the curricula for more than one child, or perhaps to take advantage of travel opportunities.

As you decide which materials you want for each year, keep in mind the logical sequencing, the way one subject builds on another. The "Introduction to Physics" study lays groundwork for "Physics II", for example, and one historical era can build on the events and consciousness of the preceding era.
