The Path of the Sun in Summer and Winter

It is a pity that in our modern city life, that so many people grow up knowing that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west and thus carry this nave assumption through life. Such an assumption is only true if you live on the equator. In the northern hemisphere, the direction from where the sun rises and sets moves throughout the course of the year. In the summertime, the sun will actually rise northeast and set in the northwest; while in the winter, the sun moves southward and rises in the southeast and sets in the southwest.
